Institutional Animals Ethics Committee (IAEC)

Dr. Buddolla's Institute of Life Sciences (Dr. BILS)

Dr. BILS has constituted an Institutional Animal Ethics Committee for control and supervision of animal experiments carried out at the Institute in accordance with the "Breeding of and Experiments on Animals (Control and Supervision) Rules, 1998". The major responsibility of the IAEC is to evaluate and approve all forms of research proposals involving small animal experimentation before the study is initiated. The IAEC is registered with the CPCSEA (Reg. No. 2172/PO/Re/S/2022/CPCSEA). Together with regular visits to the research faculty animal house and laboratories where the experiments are carried out, the Committee also keeps an eye on research before, during, and after the experiment is completed. Additionally, it provides compliance to all legal and regulatory standards governing animal experimentation. IAEC is composed of nine members, four of them are proposed by CPCSEA and the remaining five by the institution itself. The institute designates the committee's chairperson and member secretary from among the existing members. The committee's appointment is for a period of five years. The committee meets regularly to evaluate new requests, proposals, and existing regulations. In order to ensure that animal welfare and ethical standards are carefully upheld at every stage of research, the committee also routinely reviews the procedures and practises associated with animal experiments.
